Beware of False Prophets

Today is the start to my most controversial topic to date.  (Considering some of my previous posts that is surely saying something.)

Just to warn you, due to time and space, this will be a two-parter.

Last Tuesday I wrote about King Belshazzar.  He was a king who was  brought down (once again) by pride, arrogance, the refusal to acknowledge God as the ultimate authority, and the worship of other gods.

A kingdom brought down by pride, arrogance, and the refusal to bow down to God.  Hmmmm…maybe some one should tell Mr. Obama.

Anyway, late Tuesday night as I was reflecting on the post I had just written, I realized I failed to elaborate on a very important part of Chapter 5.

Let us look back at Daniel 5:2-4 (NLT):

While Belshazzar was drinking the wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver cups that his predecessor,[a] Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the Temple in Jerusalem. He wanted to drink from them with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines. So they brought these gold cups taken from the Temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines drank from them. While they drank from them they praised their idols made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.

Oh, this kind of thing just makes me so mad.   He has taken the Jews (and God’s) sacred things and used them for evil purposes.  Gasp!

Luckily that doesn’t happen today……or does it?

In OT times, sacred vessels were things.  The same came be true for today.  However, a lot of other things have become “sacred” to us as well.  When I think of religious sacraments today one stands out the most to me:

Pope

Yep, you guessed it….the Pope.

Oh goody,  now we get to the controversial part of this program….

As I am not Catholic, the Pope is not  sacred to me, but I know he is to many, many people-many of whom are not catholic.  Whether we like it or not, the Pope tends to be an unofficial representative of the church  as a whole.  Thereby, making him an important religious figurehead.

Now, I am not saying the Pope is being used to do evil.  I do, however, think there is enough ambiguity in some of his statements to credit the possibility.  He is definitely somebody we need to be keeping an eye on.  (Just like a great politician….statements that make you go hmmmm, but not enough to hang him on his words.)

This current Pope is loved by many, including many who stand very far on the left.  This makes me question him.

Pope Francis has been compared to Jesus; this makes me question him (reasons why to yet be revealed).

Those on the left want to criticize any Christian who does not automatically fall down and kiss the Pope’s feet saying, “Conservative Christians wouldn’t have liked Jesus either.”  In a sense saying, we are nothing but Pharisees. (Seems to be the common phrase used on those who believe in obedience of scripture.)

I just love when people who don’t have a complete picture of Jesus want to teach “us” who Jesus was and how He did it.  Please!

There are a lot of great things the Pope has done.  In many ways he does seem to come across as Jesus-like.  However, his close association with Obama and the likes of him make me uneasy.

obama pope

{Seeing these two together makes my skin crawl.}

Anyway, back to the Pope.  His views on creation, non-believers earning their way to heaven with good works, and his love for media attention are like neon signs over his head saying…”caution, caution.”

The Pope is either who he says he is, a true follower of Jesus Christ, or he is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  Time, actions, and his mouth will tell. {More on this at a later date}

Yes, some will call me an alarmist.  Some will call be dramatic.  However, it is scriptural for us all to watching and using discernment during these uncertain times.

Let us first take a look at Matthew 24:3-51 (Yes, for the sake of space I am making you click on the link instead of posting the scriptures here).

First off, this scripture makes it clear that we are to keep watch for the signs leading up to Jesus’ return.  No, we don’t know when He is coming, but we know He is coming when we start to see the things listed above.  It doesn’t take theologists to see that we have all these things going on now: war, earthquakes, false prophets, Christian persecution, hate for the Christians, etc. ]

Look at Timothy 3:1-17

Now, Romans 1:18-32

Wake up!  These things are happening now.  Take a look at the world around us.  This could be an exact description of America today.  Christians are so busy looking for the signs of tribulation they failed to realize that we won’t be around for the tribulation and are therefore looking for the wrong signs (again, more on this later).

So, what does this have to do with the Pope?  Hang on…I’m getting there….and, no, I don’t believe he is the Anti-Christ.

Furthermore, the Bible is filled with scripture warning us of false prophets.

The top two on my list today:

Matthew 24:24-25 (NLT): 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 25 See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.

We have been warned.  People are coming to lead others astray, even the elect.  Thus meaning, people of the faith may be lead away by false teaching.

I know, I know, I have heard the talk.  Some say conservative Christians are the ones leading people astray.  Really?  Why, because we call sin-sin?  Take a look at Revelation 2 & 3 where God addresses the 7 churches?  Are the rebukes for failing to love homosexuals?  (No, because pointing out sin is love) Are the rebukes for being Pharisees?  No, most of the rebukes are for allowing sin, sexual and otherwise, into the church, evil practices, satisfying self, failing to love God first, and allowing teaching of other Gods.

Read it please.  What God expects of His church is made clear in Revelation 2 and 3!

Revelation 3:19-Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.  So be earnest and repent.

These very things that God condemns are the very things the current leaders are trying to push on us.  Churches are falling victim to the pressures and their flocks are being led astray (just as prophesied in Matthew 24).

1 John 4:1-6 (NLT): Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet[a] acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.

What is Obama and other saying about Christ these days?  In order to bring Muslims, Jews, and Christians together (a one-world religion….hmmm) they are claiming we worship the same god.  This is absolute heresy!  Anyone who claims to be a Jesus follower, cannot believe Allah is God.  Jesus is one-third God.  You cannot have a god (with no Jesus) and  God (made up of Jesus) and call them the same God.  It blows my mind that people are following for this.

Some are saying that the Muslims admit Jesus is flesh, but just a mere prophet, not the Son of God and not God himself.  This proves they are not speaking of God.  We test the spirit by whether or not they believe God came to earth in the flesh in the form of Jesus Christ.  Therefore, anyone who claims Jesus is not God is a false prophet. Period.

The new-found love for the Muslim religion is alarming.  It is very reminiscent of OT Israel.  God’s chosen people bowed down to other gods.  They married and bedded those who worshiped other gods. They allowed other gods into God’s house.  Does this sound familar (Muslim prayer service in National Cathedral in November).   We must remember that God was willing to destroy His own “chosen” because He is a jealous God.  How is it that we would fare better?

All in the name of “tolerance,” right?

This is where I will leave you today.  Next time, we will take a look at “The” False Prophet and “The” AntiChrist along with a timeline for Revelation.

A lot to take in I know.

Oh, by the way, a few times in the Bible it says, those who have ears let them hear….Since most humans have ears, I can only take that to mean that some people will not or cannot hear this message.  So, I am prepared.  I won’t take offense.

Until tomorrow,

Missy
