I hope you have enjoyed this short series (which actually turned out to be longer than planned) titled “Do We Believe”. Today, I plan to wrap it all up in a nice little bow and end it with a beautiful song. I pray that you join me.
For the last time, let us look at the chorus of the Newsboys’ song, We Believe:
We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s comin’ back again, we believe
You see, if we truly believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, our new lives, the crucifixion, that Jesus conquered death, and the resurrection, we have all we need to overcome sin and Satan.
It is by God’s grace and love that we were given Jesus Christ and thereby the Holy Spirit. It is by Jesus’ death and resurrection that we have been forgiven of our sins, been made new, and have Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit, is the power that rose Jesus from the grave and defeated not only death but sin once and for all. That same power lives inside us; therefore, we have the power to beat death (live in eternity with the Godhead) and sin as well. That is not to say that we will never be tempted or sin, but rather we have the power not to do so, we just have to activate that power or make Godly choices.
You can’t believe and have a relationship with God without Jesus Christ. You can’t believe in Jesus Christ and not believe in the Holy Spirit (because it is there in Scripture). If you take the death and resurrection out of the picture, then the rest is lost. No, all of these beliefs come together to give us the power we need to overcome sin, Satan, and temptation. Does that mean we will never fail or sin? No, that is why we need God’s grace. But, please remember Romans 6 &8 and do not use grace as an excuse to live your life any way you choose. Our works do not determine our salvation, but I do believe they determine the quality of our life here on earth. If you choose to live in sin and darkness, you will pay the consequences of those choices. If you live your life according to the word of God, you will receive the benefits of those choices. Does that mean your life will always be easy? Does that mean you will be blessed financially? Does that mean you will have more than your non-Christian neighbors and friends? Of course not. The disciples were dedicated followers, but their lives were anything but easy. I will tell you that following God’s ways is peaceful. You can honestly rest knowing God is working everything out for your good. You may not like how he does it sometimes, but you can trust because you truly believe.
I would like to leave you with the song Arise by Newsong. I bet you all were expecting We Believe again huh? I would like to leave you with this song because I think it wraps everything up nicely. Yes, it is talking about Jesus Christ, but remember it applies to us as well because we too died and were resurrected.
Have a blessed day!
