Do We Believe? Part One

We Believe by the Newsboys, what a powerful song! God gives us inspiration from all sorts of places, and He just used this song to inspire my new series, rightly titled, “Do We Believe?” I hope you follow along as we take a closer look at the power and privileges that are available to us as children of God.

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only One Foundation
We believe, We believe
In this broken generation
When all is dark, You help us see
There is only One Salvation
We believe, We believe

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s comin’ back again, we believe

So, let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe, We believe!

We believe in God the Father!
We believe in Jesus Christ!
We believe in the Holy Spirit!
And He’s given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He’s comin’ back again!

Let the lost be found and the dead be raised!
In the here and now, let love invade!
Let the church live love our God will see
We believe, We believe!
And the gates of hell will not prevail!
For the power of God, has torn the vail!
Now we know Your love will never fail!
We believe, We believe!

“We believe,” we say it; we think it, but do we really believe? Do our actions support our confessed beliefs? Do our words support our beliefs? Do our thoughts support our beliefs? When trials and tribulations come our way, do our beliefs stand or falter?

I guess what I am really trying to say is that if we believe in God the father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, then our lives should show it. It is kind of like the song “If your happy and you know it”. If we truly believe than our lives will show it; our lives will be consistent with the word of God.

Let us look again at the bridge of We Beleive:

Let the lost be found and the dead be raised!
In the here and now, let love invade!
Let the church live love our God will see
We believe, We believe!
And the gates of hell will not prevail!
For the power of God, has torn the vail!
Now we know Your love will never fail!

I love the music build up here as it shows the power behind the words. The music is reflective of the power we have as children of God, power that most of us fail to exercise. God has indeed given us authority over Satan and of sin (Romans 6), but a lot of us walk around living defeated lives believing we cannot overcome our sins or human natures. We fail to see or understand that the same power that raised Christ for the dead lives in us.

Romans 8:11 (NLT): 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[e] his Spirit who lives in you.

Oh, if only we believed! The sick could be healed. The lost could be found. Miracles could still happen, people! Yes, if we truly believed in the power God gave us through Christ and the Holy Spirit, we could do so much more for the kingdom of God. [Yes, God does do healings, miracles, and such today without us, and some are exercising their powers as well, but just imagine what could be if we all exercised the power within us.]

I don’t want to go further today, as I really want you to think on the words of this song today day. Please listen to the song and let it penetrate your mind and spirit. Do you really believe? What is some evidence in your life that you truly believe?

In the rest of this series I hope to take a closer look at the root of our beliefs, how we defeated or can defeat sin and Satan, and what this power can do for God’s kingdom. Please note the boldness of “for God’s kingdom,” as this is not about what God’s power can do for us, but rather what we can do with the power to bring glory and honor to God. I pray that you join me.

Have a blessed day,

Missy

  1. Some excellent points here! Nothing really amazing happens until true faith happens. A great point to remember.

Thank you for visiting my site and please come back again anytime!
